The Nigerian Navy has reported the arrest of ten people in Lagos who were attempting to steal oil from the sea.

The commander of the NNS Beecroft, Commodore Kolawole Oguntuga, who spoke to journalists on Monday, stated that the suspected vandals were intercepted with tools meant to breach the pipelines and siphon fuel.

NNS Beecroft personnel reportedly prevented the theft at a single buoy mooring controlled by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The facility, located offshore close to Atlas Cove, allows vessels to discharge products for distribution.

Oguntuga noted that the suspects had been handed over to operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.
