NDLEA apprehends 252 drug offenders in Edo

In nine months, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo State apprehended 252 suspected drug dealers and traffickers.

The suspects were apprehended between January and September 2023, according to the State Commander of the NDLEA, Buba Wakawa, who revealed this on Thursday in Benin through the Assistant Commander, Narcotic, in charge of Media and Advocacy, Ondoimi Bebetu.

He stated that some of the drug users were counselled and released to their loved ones, and that the legislation allowed the agency to do so.

He explained that in tackling drug trafficking, the agency liaised with the police, Army and other sister agencies to carry out periodic raids in hotels and event centres in the state.

He said, “From January till date, the NDLEA has arrested 252 suspected drug traffickers and peddlers in the state. Some of them have been jailed, some are still in court while others have been counselled.’’
