The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) On Friday destroyed a three-acre cannabis farm in Sayinna town, Sokoto state.

Mr. Adamu Iro, the Commandant of NDLEA Sokoto Command, revealed this information during a press briefing at the state command headquarters on Saturday.

According to Iro, the operation was prompted by intelligence gathering. Following the information received, the command’s officers took immediate action to eradicate the illicit crop, which was concealed within a maize farm. The suspect involved in the illegal cultivation was apprehended.

During the briefing, the commandant emphasized that Sokoto has a history of marijuana cultivation. However, with the recent events, the state is making efforts to disassociate itself from being recognized as a producer of the illegal crop.

The 32-year-old suspect, Anas Sani Sayinna, responded to journalists’ questions, admitting that he had brought the seeds from Lagos six months ago.

“I call on my colleagues and those yet to engage in the cultivation of the drug-related crop to desist, and engage in legal and meaningful ventures that will make them self-reliant and successful.” He said
