Men of the Ondo State Police Command have arraigned a 32-year-old man, Emmanuel Fasuyi, before a Magistrates’ Court in Akure for allegedly killing his 65-year-old neighbour, Grace Ogunsulire, after stealing from her home.
The police charged Fasuyi, a resident of Ondo City, with one count of murder.
At the hearing on Wednesday, Prosecuting Counsel Owolabi Edu informed the court that the offence took place on 16 September 2024, at around noon, at No. 1 Oke-Itura Street, Yaba, Ondo City.
He alleged that Fasuyi brutally murdered the elderly woman by striking her on the head with an object.
According to Edu, the defendant had broken into the victim’s home intending to steal, unaware that she was inside. Upon being seen by the victim as she emerged from the bathroom, Fasuyi allegedly attacked her, inflicting a fatal blow to the head.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Section 319 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law of 2006.
He urged the court to remand the defendant at the correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Magistrate R.I. Adelakin adjourned the case to 25 February 2025 for the hearing of the application and ruling. She ordered that the defendant be held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure.
