The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Elela Monday, for allegedly killing his 14-year-old son, Tope Elela, and burying him in a shallow grave behind their home in Ajowa Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Wilfred Afolabi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, noting that the suspect was among recent arrests made by the command.
According to Afolabi, the incident came to light after the police received an anonymous tip-off.
“On the 30th of December, we received an anonymous call that one Elela Monday had killed his 14-year-old son and buried him in a shallow grave under a banana tree behind his house. The suspect confessed during interrogation that he killed the boy, claiming the boy’s criminal behaviour was an embarrassment to him and his wife,” Afolabi said.
In a separate development, the commissioner reported that 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with a cult clash in Owo, which resulted in four deaths.
“Some suspects, including a 28-year-old cult member, Olamide Ogunseyila, have confessed to their involvement in the crisis. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend others, including a key suspect, Steven Dada, alias ‘Ogodo’,” Afolabi added.
The police commissioner urged residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities to the authorities, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property in the state.
