Plateau crisis: Gunmen storm secondary school, kill two teachers, injure Vice Principal

Gunmen suspected of being herders attacked BECO Comprehensive School, Kwi, in Plateau State’s Riyom Local Government Area, murdering two teachers and injuring the schools’ vice principal.

Mr. Dantoro Gyang, the schools’ principal, confirmed the attack saying the employees were on a normal meeting at about 2:00 p.m. on Monday when some herders led their cows into the grounds for grazing.

He said the attempts by the security men to confront the herders, angered them and they they started shooting sporadically.

He said, that there was stampede by  the staff who took to their heels  abandoning  the meeting .

According to him, “while we were  trying to engage them on the need to vacate the school premises, two of them suddenly brought out guns, pulled the triggers, and instantly killed two of my teachers, while the Vice-Principal (Adminstration), Mr. Dalyop Emmanuel Ibrahim, and one other person were shot in the abdomen.

“As I am talking to you now, one of those injured is presently receiving treatment at  the General Hospital Riyom, while the vice principal was taken to Jos University Teaching Hospital.”

President of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM),  Solomon Dalyop, described  the attack as another form of terrorist’s attack on the people of Plateau State, adding that until open grazing is banned, the herdsmen wiould continue to terrorize the people of the state and the middle belt as a whole.
