Police apprehend six suspected animal rustlers, burglars in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command apprehended six individuals on charges of animal rustling and burglary in the Kiyawa Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement released in Dutse on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shiisu, reported that a police patrol team recently apprehended six suspects in the Kiyawa Local Government Area. Shiisu explained that four of the suspects were detained in Kiyawa town along with four sheep strongly believed to be stolen.

The identified suspected rustlers include Garba Abubakar, 27, a resident of Zugun village; Abdullahi Alhaji, 25, resident of Gadumare village; and Musa Ruwa, 25, resident of Zubo village, all from Jama’are Local Government Area, Bauchi state. They were apprehended with the four allegedly stolen sheep.

Two other suspects, namely Ibrahim Rabiu, 22, a resident of Bakin Kasuwa area, and Musa Sani, 42, resident of Zakirai quarters, both in Kiyawa LGA, were arrested with 10 pieces of roofing sheets and a drum strongly suspected to be stolen.

During interrogation, three of the four suspected rustlers admitted to stealing the four sheep from Kirisamma LGA, while the other two confessed to stealing the 10 roofing sheets and drum from Ramat Nursery and Primary School in Kiyawa LGA, as per the PPRO.

He mentioned that the police are currently making heightened efforts to identify the legitimate owner of the sheep, while the roofing sheets and the drum have already been returned to their rightful owner.

Shiisu stated that the suspects would soon be brought to court for charges.
