Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested six individuals involved in separate incidents of vandalism and gender-based violence.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, confirmed this in a statement released on Tuesday.
He stated that on December 25, 2024, police officers on patrol apprehended Hamza Mohammed (20) and Mustapha Sa’idu (22), both from Bauchi, for allegedly stealing vehicle tyres and cement.
“The suspects confessed to trespassing and stealing the items, valued at N249,000,” Wakil said.
Vandalism and Stolen Electrical Equipment
Further investigations revealed that the same individuals, along with Aliyu Musa, had vandalised electrical equipment belonging to the Jos Electricity Power Company (JED) on January 14, 2025.
The suspects had allegedly arranged to sell the stolen conductor to Al-Ameen Ibrahim.
Recovered items included a hacksaw, a bundle of electric aluminium conductor, and a motorcycle.
“Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspects will be charged to court in collaboration with Jos Electric Distribution Company, Bauchi Branch,” the statement read.
Cases of Gender-Based Violence
In a separate incident, Shehu Isah (45) was arrested on January 25, 2025 for allegedly sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl in Kirfi.
The suspect was accused of luring the child into his room and forcibly abusing her.
Additionally, on January 16, 2025, police in Ningi apprehended Shafi’u Sule in connection with the disappearance of a ten-year-old girl.
The child was found with Sule, who allegedly threatened her life.
“Investigation revealed that the suspect threatened to cut off the victim’s tongue and burn her alive if she cried for help,” Wakil stated.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further inquiries.
Wakil reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
