The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper who has been terrorizing residents along the Enugwu-Ukwu Road in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.

The state police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a press statement on Saturday, noting that the suspect was apprehended after a gunfight between the gang and joint security operatives.

Ikenga explained that acting on credible intelligence, the joint security task force—comprising police officers and local vigilantes—intervened to disrupt the criminal activities of the gang.

He stated:
“On November 22, 2024, at about 10:30 am, joint security operatives neutralized a member of an armed robbery gang operating along the Nkwo Enugu-Ukwu Road. One AK-47 rifle, two magazines, and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the suspect.

“The operatives responded promptly to credible information about the gang’s planned activities. During the operation, the criminals were engaged in a gun duel, resulting in the neutralization of one suspect, while others escaped with bullet wounds. Security dominance has been sustained in the area, and a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.”

Ikenga urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, emphasizing the availability of several channels to contact the police.
