Police arrest two over death of vigilante member in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State has announced the arrest of two suspected hoodlums in connection with the death of a vigilante member in the Epe area.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

Hundeyin reported that on Monday, around 4:30 p.m., the Epe Police Division received a report that Oluwafemi, a 45-year-old member of the Ibile Vigilante group, was attacked by suspected hoodlums on Friday at approximately 2:00 p.m.

The attack took place at a refuse dump site in Afero Village, Epe, where the vigilante member was trying to prevent the hoodlums from scavenging contaminated frozen turkeys.

According to Hundeyin, Oluwafemi sustained injuries and was taken to Epe General Hospital for treatment, after which he was discharged.

“However, on July 15, 2024, at about 2.30 p.m., his condition relapsed, and he was taken back to the hospital.

“Doctors on duty battled to save his life, but unfortunately, he gave up the ghost. His corpse has been deposited at the mortuary.

“The two suspects have been arrested in addition to the 12 already handed over to task force on Saturday over scavenging contaminated turkeys.

“Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
