Police begin manhunt for killers of Akwa Ibom woman

Tension and unease grip certain areas of Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, in the aftermath of the brutal murder of a woman by unidentified individuals.

On Sunday night, an unnamed woman was subjected to beheading in the vicinity of the banking layout on Udo Udoma Avenue in Uyo. She had previously resided and engaged in farming in the area before her unfortunate demise.

According to reports on Tuesday that her lifeless body was found on Monday, with her severed head by the side of her body.

“We were shocked on Monday morning when we came to work and found the corpse lying close to our entrance,” a source who spoke on condition of anonymity said on Tuesday.

“The deceased cultivated a piece of land around the banking layout and lived within the farm,” another source said.

Confirming the incident to reporters on Tuesday, Odiko Macdon, the Public Relations Officer of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, stated that the command has initiated a manhunt for the individuals responsible for the crime.

He further mentioned that the Commissioner of Police for the state, Olatoye Durosinmi, has committed to sparing no effort in ensuring that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.

He said, “Yes, the command has received a report of the incident and the state Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durusimmi, has ordered an investigation into the incident.

“The commissioner has vowed that nothing will be spared to fish out the perpetrators of this dastardly crime.

“We assure Akwa Ibom people that the perpetrators of the dastardly act will be brought to book.”
