The Cross River State Police Command, on Tuesday, verified the apprehension of two individuals belonging to a four-member kidnapping gang.
SP Irene Ugbo, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the apprehension and revealed that the gang had kidnapped the wife of a well-known vehicle dealer in Calabar.
After receiving ransom payment, the kidnappers released their captive, Ugbo told newsmen.
Ugbo further mentioned that the suspects have provided confessional statements to the police and will face charges once the investigation is complete.
“Luck ran out on the duo as the police tracked the owner of the bank account into which they received the ransom money.”
“The suspects never knew that they were being trailed. We are happy that two out of four of them have been apprehended,’’ she stated.
Ugbo included that the suspects were found in possession of locally-made pistols, ammunition, phones, and other valuable items.
She cautioned the public against sharing their bank details with others, emphasizing the potential for such information to be exploited for fraudulent or illicit activities.”
