Police officer shoots father to death in Borno

A police sergeant shot and killed his father in the Tudu neighbourhood of the Maduganari community, near the Borno State Police Command offices in Maiduguri.

Linus Wadzani, an officer, is accused of shooting his father many times. He is a Mobile Police officer with Mopol 6, Maiduguri, and works as a security detail for the Borno State House of Assembly.

While briefing journalists at the Borno State Police Command Headquarters on Monday, command spokesman Kenneth Daso stated that the deceased was a former assistant superintendent of police.

He stated that the deceased worked for the state command with the Mounted Unit.

Daso described the incident, saying Sergeant Linus arrived home at around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday and had a violent confrontation with the father.

This prompted him to shoot him many times with an AK-47 rifle, resulting in his immediate death.

He stated that when police officers visited the deceased’s compound, known as Wadzani Natsiri, a family member revealed that when Linus arrived home, there was no one but the father, thus no one could provide an account of what happened.

According to the spokesman, a police patrol team responded to a distress call and calmed the situation.

He stated that during interrogation, Sergeant Linus admitted to being under the influence of alcohol and other strong narcotics.

According to him, a forensic team from the command has been assembled, and blood samples from the sergeant have been taken to determine his mental state. He confirmed that an inquiry into the homicide has begun.
