Police recover three Projectiles, avert explosion in Borno

Police authorities in Borno State have successfully recovered three projectiles in Maiduguri, thereby preventing a potential explosion.

The spokesperson for the Borno Police Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed that the projectiles were discovered in the Dala Kafanti area of Maiduguri, the capital of the north-eastern state.

“On January 2, 2025, at approximately 0925 hours, the Command received a report from a resident, Asabe James, of Dala Kafanti area in Maiduguri. She reported spotting a suspicious sack containing unidentified items behind her house. Following this report, the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 in Maiduguri promptly moved to the location. The area was cordoned off and swept, leading to the recovery of three projectiles within the sack,” Daso stated in a release issued on Thursday.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the ordnance was placed at the location by unknown individuals during the early hours of the same day.

As part of the response, community members were educated on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORE) and safety protocols. The police emphasised the importance of vigilance and immediate reporting of any suspicious objects or activities to authorities.

This incident underscores the critical role of public awareness and cooperation in maintaining safety and preventing security threats in the region.

BORNO STATE POLICE COMMAND AVERTS THE EXPLOSION AND RECOVERS THREE (3) PROJECTILES.

The Borno State Police Command under the leadership of CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal PSC has reiterated its efforts in ensuring public safety with the recent achievement in the recovery of 3 projectiles in Dala, Maiduguri.

BRIEF OF INCIDENT
On 2nd January 2025, at about 0925HRS, following a report received from one Asabe James of Dala Kafanti Area Maiduguri – Borno State reported to the command that she sighted a suspicious sack containing unidentified items behind her house, on receipt of the information, the Command EOD-CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri, swiftly moved to the scene, cordoned and swept the area, where three (3) projectiles were recovered in the sack.

Preliminary Investigations further reveal that the Ordnance were dropped by unknown persons in the first flush of the morning on the same day.

Community members were further sensitized on Explosive Ordnance Risk Awareness (EORE) and Safety measures.
