The Katsina State Police Command successfully foiled two kidnapping attempts in Jibia and Faskari Local Government Areas (LGAs) on December 7, 2024, rescuing a total of 20 captives.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the first incident occurred around 7 PM at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina–Magamar Jibia road, where armed bandits opened fire on a moving vehicle, attempting to abduct its occupants.

Acting on a tip-off, operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly intervened, engaging the bandits in a gunfight.

The attackers were forced to abandon their mission, fleeing with gunshot wounds. All 10 vehicle occupants were rescued unharmed.

In a separate incident, around 8:30 PM at Marabar Bangori along the Funtua–Gusau road in Faskari LGA, suspected armed bandits ambushed another vehicle carrying passengers. Police operatives responded promptly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle. Overpowered by the officers’ superior firepower, the bandits fled the scene, leaving all passengers unharmed.

However, one rescued victim sustained injuries from the assailants and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Aliyu Abubakar Musa, praised the officers for their bravery and professionalism, urging them to maintain the momentum in combating crime across the state. CP Musa also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents.
