Police thwart robbery in Niger, seize AK-47, Indian hemp

The Niger State Police Command successfully thwarted an armed robbery attempt and seized an AK-47 rifle at a mining site in Iwa village via Gawu Babangida, situated in the Gurara Local Government Area of the state.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, the police swiftly responded to a distress call on Saturday and confronted the armed robbers in a firefight.

He said after a prolonged confrontation, the criminals managed to flee the scene through a nearby forest. It is suspected that some of them may have sustained gunshot wounds.

The spokesperson clarified that the victims were safely rescued without any injuries, and the police team also retrieved an AK-47 rifle along with an empty magazine.

At the same time, the command apprehended two individuals with sixteen bags of Indian Hemp in the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

Auta Umar Saidu, 25, and MohammThe Niger State ed Bala, 52, were taken into custody in Muwo village while trying to transport the sixteen bags of suspected Indian Hemp to Ndayako village.
