The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of six suspects linked to the theft of a 300 KVA transformer along Kaduna Road.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Minna.

He explained that on August 20, around 9 p.m., officers at Maje Division received credible intelligence about a suspect, Mustapha Haladu, 28, of Kaduna Road, who, along with his associate Abubakar Ibrahim, 26, was allegedly making arrangements to sell off a stolen 300 KVA transformer that same night.

Following the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised his patrol team and heightened surveillance around the area, leading to the arrests.

At about 4:00 am on Aug. 21, officers intercepted a yellow truck with registration number GWA 850 XD carrying the transformer, driven by Aliyu Sadi, 32.

Haladu and Ibrahim were also in the vehicle, escorting the item from Akilbu village, Kaduna State. They could not provide any document proving ownership of the transformer.

Preliminary investigation revealed they planned to dismantle and sell the transformer in parts. Three other accomplices were later arrested in connection with the crime.

They were identified as Isya Yusha’u, 28; Usama Abdullahi, 20; and Usman Suleiman, 25, all residents of Kaduna Road.

All six suspects are under investigation and will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, for further inquiry.
