In Benin City, three operatives of the Edo State Security Network (ESSN) were tragically murdered on Thursday night in Okhun Community, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state, in an attack by unidentified bandits.

It has been reported that the incident may be linked to a power struggle within the community, while some speculate it could be a retaliatory move by a cult group.

In a brief one-minute and forty-six-second viral audio/video, a member of the ESSN identified himself as ‘Commander Small Baba’. He reported, ‘Tonight, we received intel that some hoodlums were firing indiscriminately in Okhun Community.

“We swung into action immediately upon receiving the information. But we were attacked by the hoodlums. They killed three of my men in the process.

“I was also shot by the hoodlums, but I managed to escape”, Small Baba, who sustained wound on his right hand said.

It’s worth noting that Okhun Community recently witnessed two fatalities, which subsequently escalated into an inter-cult conflict in Benin, claiming no less than 10 lives in the process.

When approached for comment, the Spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi SP Nwabuzor, stated he hadn’t received any official notification about the incident but assured to look into it and provide an update.
