What we are doing to rescue kidnapped FUDMA students – Police

The Katsina State Police Command is striving to secure the freedom of four female students from the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA), who are currently held captive by bandits.

“We are making an effort in collaboration with the school management, relevant stakeholders, and sister security agencies,” police spokesperson ASP Aliyu Abubakar-Sadiq told the journalists in Katsina on Friday.

On securing the released student without paying ransom, FUDMA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Armya’u Bichi, earlier told newsmen, “I was communicating regularly on phone with the remaining four students as efforts were in top gear to rescue them.”

Bichi revealed meeting the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, recently.

“He assured me that more security personnel would be deployed to the permanent site of the university,” the VC stated.

On October 3, 2023, suspected bandits abducted five female students from FUDMA when they invaded their rented apartment situated behind Mariamoh Ajiri Memorial School in Dutsin-ma.

At that time, the police had announced the arrest of a man believed to be an informant to the terrorists.

Subsequently, on November 22, the police confirmed that one of the five abducted students had been liberated after spending approximately 50 days in captivity. The girl was released from the kidnappers’ den and transported to Kuncin Kalgo, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, before being brought back to Katsina.

Commissioner Bichi emphasized that no ransom was paid to secure the release of the freed kidnapped student.
