There was pandemonium on Wednesday at the Ibeji River in Idogo-Ifonyitedo area of Ogun State as suspected smugglers ambush, attack and butchered a Customs Officer during a routine information patrol of the area.

The officers (numbering about five) during the patrol intercepted and seized a Toyota Highlander with chassis No: STDGKRFHES059484.

However, the suspected smugglers who were heavily armed descended on the officers and inflicted various degree of life threatening injuries on them.

Mostly affected amongst the officers was one Musa, M.M who sustained deep machete cuts on his entire body with his left shoulder almost severed.

Confirming the incident in an exclusive telephone chat with NewsClickng.com, Ogun Customs, Command Spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada said the injured officer was on admission at the hospital for proper medical care.

He described the injury inflicted on the operative as life-threatening that has left his left shoulder mangled.

He said the Command and anti-smuggling Operatives will not be deterred by this horrendous and vicious attack but rather continue to ensure they stamp out smuggling that has adverse effect on the national economy.

 

Further findings by NewsClickng.com indicates that the badly injured operative has been transferred out of the state for advanced Medicare at the national Orthopedic hospital in Lagos.
