Secondus, Others Visit IBB, Express Readiness for 2019 General Elections

National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Uche Secondus on Saturday led some members of the National Executive committee of the party on a courtesy visit to former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, during which he told the former Nigerian leader that “the PDP is ready for the 2019 general elections.”

Secondus was accompanied on the visit by the National Secretary, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim Tsauri; National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Maibasira; National Financial Secretary, Austin Akobundu; National Organising Secretary Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure; National Vice Chairman North, and the party’s Spokesman, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan.

A source close to the meeting said Secondus also briefed Babangida about the efforts being made by the leadership to “reposition the party for the tasks ahead.”

It was gathered that the National Executive committee also expressed gratitude to IBB for what was described “as the role he played before and after the crisis” and especially during the national convention of the party.

“We briefed him on development in the party especially how we are trying to reposition the party. We also briefed him on development in the country and preparation for the 2019 general elections”, the source added.

It was learnt that General Babangida “received the delegation warmly” and assured the members of his support at all times.

According to the source, who also attended the Minna meeting, the former Nigerian military ruler restated his belief in the PDP and assured the visiting team that he would always give the party the necessary support.

“General Babangida emphasised his belief in the unity of Nigeria and asked everyone to work towards ensuring peace remained in the country”, the source added. The delegation has since returned to Abuja.
