Medical students from Benue State University have protested and besieged the government house over what they claim is arbitrary withdrawal of classmates, a lack of water, and overcrowding of up to five students in a room, rather than two.
Imenger Charles, president of the medical students, revealed this while speaking to Governor Hyacinth Alia, who dispatched his Chief of Staff, Mr Paul Biam, to engage the protesting medical students and establish a common ground.
The governor reminded students of his timely approval of their long-suspended bond scheme and accreditation, and informed them that plans to commence building of extra hostel accommodation were in the works.
The Vice Chancellor of Benue State University, Prof. Joseph Iorapuu, however, said that plans have been concluded for the construction of new hostel accommodation.
The Vice Chancellor further appealed to the protesting medical students to return to their academic activities and allow for timely solutions to the complaints raised.
