The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed that the Placement Examination, popularly known as the Common Entrance Examination, remains free for all eligible pupils, warning public primary and junior secondary schools against imposing unauthorised charges on parents or guardians.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, following remarks by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olohungbebe, in Ilorin on Monday.

Olohungbebe emphasised that the examination is fully funded by the state government and that no fees have been approved for participating pupils.

He urged principals and headteachers to adhere strictly to the policy by ensuring that no unauthorised payments are demanded from parents or guardians under any guise during the examination process.

“Our schools have consistently demonstrated commitment to government policies. We expect every school leader to sustain that confidence by ensuring the Common Entrance Examination remains completely free for every eligible child,” the commissioner said.

He noted that the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq remains committed to transparency, accountability and equal access to education.

“The administration of His Excellency, Malam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq places a high premium on transparency, accountability, and equitable access to education.”

He warned that any school found violating the directive would face appropriate action.

“Any reported violations will be investigated and addressed appropriately in accordance with established regulations,” Olohungbebe said.

The commissioner also called on school administrators to uphold integrity throughout the examination process, reaffirming the government’s commitment to credible and fair assessments.

“We remain unwavering in our commitment to credible, fair and malpractice-free assessments across the state’s education system,” he added.

He further encouraged parents and guardians to report any unauthorised demands for payment through the ministry’s C2C helpline, assuring them that all genuine complaints would be given due attention.
