The students and administration of the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) have praised Governor Dikko Radda’s initiatives to elevate the institute to university.

They are also advocating for the university to bear the name of the governor: Malam Dikko Umaru Radda University of Technology, Katsina (MADUR).

During a solidarity rally conducted on Monday at the premises of the proposed university, Mustapha Kafinsoli, the President of the Students Union Government of the institute, informed reporters that the purpose of the rally was to urge the school administration to initiate its academic sessions with a direct entry program. This request is made for the benefit of outgoing students from the institute, allowing them to further their education without having to seek admission at the 100 level.

The students were observed carrying various placards displaying different messages, expressing their appreciation to the state governor for upgrading the institute and suggesting that the school be named after the governor.

“The essence of the rally is for the present and ex-students of this institution to appreciate Governor Dikko Raɗɗa for converting or upgrading the institute into a University.

“We are requesting the governor to name the university after his name: Malam Dikko Umaru Radda University of Technology, Katsina.

“We also need the school to start with a Direct Entry Program (DE) for the outgoing students and former students, instead of seeking admission from 100 level,” Kafinsoli noted.

Founded in 2014 through Katsina State of Nigeria Law No. 8 of 2013 by the former governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Shema, the institute was established as an Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI). Its primary goal is to foster the development of indigenous technologies and skills in both industry and government.

The institute’s mission is to promote expertise and provide education in science, technology, and engineering, forming the foundation for a comprehensive education that will effectively benefit Katsina State and the entire nation.
