The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has given the Federal Government a one-week deadline to resolve its dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) or face a national mass action by Nigerian students across the country.

Sunday Adedayo, president of the student’s association, made the announcement on Monday in Sokoto, shortly after signing the revised constitution of the association at the Sokoto State Government House.

Mr Adedayo stated that  Student’s Union has given the Federal Government between today, February 21, and February 28 to meet and resolve the issue with ASUU or face a national mass action by Nigerian students.

He described the Federal Government’s attitude as unfortunate, accusing it of playing hide and seek with ASUU since 1999, when they signed the agreement with the academic union.

Mr Adedayo stated that the government has messed up the education system at the primary and secondary levels, and that NANS will not stand by and watch the government destroy tertiary education.

NANS is in Sokoto for a constitutional review conference at Sokoto State University, where the organization reviewed its forty-year-old constitution.

The revised Constitution was signed in the presence of Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal at the Sokoto State Government House.
