In a bid to expand its reach and strengthen its international presence, the National Examinations Council (NECO) has accredited additional foreign schools to conduct the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The newly accredited schools, alongside the existing ones, are located in Niger Republic and Equatorial Guinea.
A statement released on Saturday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, revealed that the accreditation team had visited the schools to assess their readiness to administer the SSCE and BECE.
“The Accreditation Team inspected classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer labs, workshops, examination halls, and sports facilities to ensure their adequacy and suitability for NECO examinations,” the statement read.
“Following a thorough evaluation, the schools were granted full SSCE and BECE accreditation status.”
The statement emphasised that the accreditation of these additional foreign schools highlights NECO’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders.
“With its expanding global footprint, NECO is on track to become a leading examination body in Africa, offering opportunities for students worldwide to benefit from its expertise and contributing to the advancement of education in Africa and beyond,” it added.
In related news, candidates are currently participating in the ongoing NECO SSCE External in Diffa, Niger Republic. This marks the UNHCR School in Diffa as the first NECO SSCE External Centre outside Nigeria.
NECO examinations are now available to candidates in Benin Republic, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger Republic, Equatorial Guinea, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
