The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund) has approved a total of ₦20,075,050,006.55 for disbursement to 192,906 students in public tertiary institutions across the country.
NELFund, in an update shared on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, disclosed that the latest disbursement covers applications processed as of January 1, 2025.
Among the beneficiaries, Bayero University, Kano, will receive the largest allocation, with 11,683 students approved to share ₦1.3 billion. This is closely followed by the University of Maiduguri, where 12,198 students will receive ₦1.27 billion.
Other major beneficiaries include:
- University of Jos: 6,988 students approved for ₦941 million.
- Federal University Dutsin-Ma: 8,978 students to share ₦909 million.
- University of Ibadan: 4,907 students allocated ₦746 million.
- Federal University Dutse: 5,451 students to receive ₦593 million.
- Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto: 6,480 students slated for ₦578 million.
- University of Lagos: 3,685 students allocated ₦557 million.
Meanwhile, institutions with fewer beneficiaries include:
- Gombe State Polytechnic, Bajoga, with four students receiving ₦122,000.
- Abia State Polytechnic, with two students approved for ₦106,300.
- Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, disbursing ₦214,116 to three students.
- Kenule Benson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, allocating ₦315,500 to seven students.
Other smaller disbursements include ₦330,000 for three students at the Federal College of Education, Gidan Madi, ₦518,500 for 11 students at Federal Polytechnic Ukana, Akwa Ibom, and ₦368,400 for nine students at Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State.
In December 2024, NELFund’s Managing Director, Akintunde Sawyerr, revealed that the fund had previously disbursed ₦110 billion to students across Nigeria. The current disbursement highlights the agency’s continued commitment to supporting education in the country.
