Ogun govt. to construct hostels in state-owned tertiary institutions

The Special Assistant to Gov. Dapo Abiodun on Student Matters, Mr Azeez Adeyemi, said on Monday that the Ogun government would construct hostels in all state-owned tertiary institutions in partnership with building developers.

Adeyemi spoke during his assessment tour of state-owned Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, in Remo North Local Government Area.

He said it was important for students to learn in a conducive atmosphere, and building hostels would afford them the opportunity to enjoy adequate electricity, water and other amenities.

“The present administration in Ogun State has resolved to do everything to restore the lost glory of education in the state,” Adeyemi said.

The special assistant called on students to shun cultism and face their studies, warning them that Gov. Abiodun had zero tolerance for indecency and other social vices.

Earlier, the Divisional Police Officer, Isara Division, Kunle Olayinka, said that there had been cordial relationship between the police and the student community.

In his remarks, Dr Isiah Oyeyinka, Rector of the institution, commended the governor for his support since assumption of office.

Oyeyinka said that he had upgraded equipment and infrastructure within the school.

Some of the students who spoke called for reduction in tuition fees, provision of hostels, adequate power supply and a well-equipped library.
