Yobe Orders Closure of School Over Boko Haram Attack
The Yobe State Government has directed immediate closure of Government Girl’s Secondary School, Dapchi in Bursari Local Government Area of the state, following an attack on the school by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Muhammed Alami, made the disclosure while addressing newsmen. He said the closure of the school had become necessary after the attacks, and due to food items stolen from the school by the suspected Boko Haram members.
Alami said there is no report yet of any missing student, and that it is too early for him to make any further comment on that.
He said: “we are working to find out the number of students who are not on the register.
“Let me tell you that as of now we do not have any information regarding abduction of any of the students by the Boko Haram sect.
“We have received a directive from the state government to close the school and allow the parents to take their children back home until peace returned to the school.
“substantial food items were carted away by the attackers.”
The Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command, Abdulmaliki Sunmonu, confirmed the attack on the school by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.
He noted that Boko Haram members stormed the town by 6:52pm and started shooting sporadically into the air before security operatives were mobilised to the location
