Ace Nigerian actor, Emeka Ike, has officially declared his intention to run for a seat in the house of representatives.

Ike recently announced that he will be vying for the Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency under the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the movie star, his decision to seek legislative office stems from a desire to push for a “proper systematic structure” capable of accelerating national development.

“I am running for the federal house of representatives under the Bwari federal constituency in Abuja,” he said.

“We want to make a statement. I want to step into the real thing right now if I have made you, Nigerians, happy. Let us see how we bring dividends close to you.

“Let us block the boys who think they have the power. If we stand they will run.”

“I’m going for the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, and we want to make a federal statement,”

In a video circulating online, Ike was seen receiving his nomination form from a party official.

A member of his campaign team disclosed that the actor has already won the NDC primaries and is now awaiting the 2027 polls.

This marks Ike’s return to the Nigerian political scene. In 2018, the Nollywood star ran for the federal house of representatives, representing Ideato South LGA of Imo under the Young Progressive Party (YPP).

With the latest move, Ike joins a growing roster of Nigerian celebrities who have signalled interest in the 2027 elections, running under various political parties.

Filmmaker Fidelis Duker had earlier announced his intention to contest for a house of representatives seat in Cross River state, also on the NDC ticket.

Ike’s acting career took off with his role in the 1994 feature film ‘Deadly Affair’. Over the years, he has starred alongside Nollywood greats such as Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Chioma Chukwuka, Kate Henshaw, Desmond Elliot, Jim Iyke, and Ramsey Nouah.

After a prolonged hiatus from acting, Ike returned to the spotlight in 2023 with a role in Toyin Abraham’s ‘Malaika’.
