7 facts to know about late actress Jumoke Aderounmu

The Nigerian film industry recently lost one of its greatest. On April 8, 2024 Jumoke Aderounmu, a Nollywood actress best known for her part in the television series Jenifa’s Diary, passed away.

This was made public by her brother, Adeola Aderounmu, on Instagram. Here are some facts about Adejumoke, along with a few things you might already be aware of about the late actress:

  1. She was born in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on March 26, 1984.
  2. She went to the Abeokuta Girls Grammar School, Onikolobo Abeokuta, and St. Banerdettes Schools, Ibara Abeokuta. Aderounmu pursued a further education degree in International Relations at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State. Later, she went to Gombe State to complete her one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) requirement.
  3. Aderounmu was an on-air personality at Goldmyne Entertainment Presented for Box Office Television shows in addition to her career as an actress. From 2012 until 2015, she was employed at Concert Radio as well.
  4. Among her major works are the television programmes Jenifa’s Diary and Industreet by Funke Akindele, as well as the film Alakada directed by Toyin Abraham.
  5. At the Africa International Film Festival, Aderounmu was awarded a Ford scholarship to study acting and filmmaking at La CineFabrique Multimedia in Lyon, France.
  6. The late actress made her professional debut in 2008 following her appearance in Tunde Kelani’s film Arugba.
  7. Adejumoke Aderounmu won the Maya Africa Awards as the Face of Nollywood in 2016 and the Scream Awards as the New Face of Nollywood in 2017.
