A$AP Rocky found not guilty in felony assault trial

A jury in Los Angeles acquitted rapper A$AP Rocky, actual name Rakim Mayers, of felony assault charges stemming from a 2021 gunshot incident in Hollywood.

Mayers was accused of shooting a semi-automatic handgun at his old buddy Terell Ephron after an incident.

Prosecutors said Mayers shot at Ephron on purpose, grazing his hand, but the defence claimed he was only carrying a pretend gun.

During the trial, Mayers’ attorney, Joe Tacopina, challenged Ephron’s credibility, pointing out inconsistencies in his testimony.

After three hours of deliberation, the jury ruled in Mayers’ favour, delivering a not-guilty verdict.
The decision spares Mayers from a potential prison sentence of over 24 years.
He was arrested in 2022 and had faced intense scrutiny throughout the case.
