Nollywood actor Denola Grey has reacted to controversial crossdresser Bobrisky’s latest jail sentence, claiming it has nothing to do with the naira abuse for which he was convicted.
On Friday, April 12, 2024, Bobrisky was sentenced by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos to six months in prison without the possibility of a fine.
Following Bobrisky’s guilty plea to a four-count charge of Naira misuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the judge dropped the hammer.
In response, Grey stated that Bobrisky was being used as a “scapegoat” and that there was more to the statement than first glance.
On his X handle, he wrote:
“We all know this isn’t about spraying [Naira]. They are scapegoating her and using this BS as a reason.
Bobrisky got into trouble last month when he sprayed money during the premiere of Ajakaju, the highly anticipated movie starring actress and producer Eniola Ajao, at Film One Circle Mall in the upscale Lekki neighbourhood of Lagos.
Social media users shared the event’s videos extensively, which might have increased pressure on the authorities to act.
But this is not the very first time a famous Nigerian will serve time in prison for misusing Naira.
Actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin received a six-month prison sentence in February for trampling on and spray-painting fresh naira notes.
