The family of late South African rapper, Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, has announced plans to continue with the planned release of his upcoming album, Mass Country.
Before his death, Forbes had shared several posts on his social media platforms promoting his new album slated for release in February of this year.
According to a press statement shared via the artiste’s official Instagram page on Thursday, the Forbes’ family will proceed with the release as scheduled in order “to honour his legacy”.
“With the nation engulfed with the grief of the tragic and untimely passing of Kiernan ‘AKA Forbes, the Forbes family have acknowledged the outpouring of support and love from South Africa and beyond.
“The family continues to celebrate the life of their son. To honour his legacy, they are choosing to continue with the release of the mass country album on the 24th February 2023 as planned,” the release read in part.
In the statement, it was also revealed that the production of the album spanned two years, and became “AKA’s entire world” during the said period.
According to the rapper’s wishes before death, ‘Company’, a track featuring Nigeria’s Kiddominant will be released on Friday before the whole album is released next week.
AKA was killed alongside his close friend, Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, in a drive-by shooting at Durban, South Africa, on Friday.
