Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA), organizer of the annual Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) has announced that the 2021 edition of the award would hold Sunday, November 28, in Lagos.
Mrs. Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, founder of AMAA and president of Association of Movie Producers (AMP) made the announcement on Wednesday at a media launch/press conference held at CCX Lounge, Kofo Abayomi, Victoria Island, Lagos.
She revealed that this year’s AMAA event would be a hybrid event with both physical and virtual attendees. However, she noted that more details about the event would be revealed as time goes on.
While speaking, Mrs. Peace noted that the prestigious AMVCA award has been ongoing for 17 years noting that the award is positioned to keep raising the standards for filmmaking in Nigeria and Africa.
She revealed that currently, the jury are still deliberating on movies submitted for the awards and later in October, movies that make it to the nominations list would be made public.
The AMAA President revealed that for this year’s AMVCA award, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, a former Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture in Lagos State heads the jury for the award. Other members on the team comprise other Nigerian and foreign movie curators.
During the press conference, Mrs. Peace also spoke about the 100 films project AMAA is currently working on.
Mr. Abiola Durodola, a senior project manager overseeing the 100 films project noted that through it, AMAA aims to train, mentor, and breed the next generation of movie makers in Africa.
He noted that AMAA has organized training for youths across Africa and most recently, they had a training in Port Harcourt, Nigeria for youth interested in film making with previous editions in Lagos, South Africa, Mali, among others.
