Popular American actress and singer-songwriter Chloe Bailey has expressed dissatisfaction with racism in the music industry.

The 25-year-old bemoaned the fact that White musicians are seen as mainstream pop stars, but Black artists are forced into certain genres.

She argued that her music is classed as R&B because she is a Black woman.

Chloe asserted in her Nylon cover story that her style of music would fall within the pop category if it were performed by a White person.

“Any music I do will easily and quickly be categorized as R&B because I’m a Black woman. If someone who didn’t have my skin tone made the same music, it would be in the pop categories. That’s just the way it’s always been in life,” she lamented.

She added that music has “no race, it has no genre, it has none of that. It’s just a feeling and it’s a vibration.”

Chloe Elizabeth Bailey, an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor, goes by her stage name Chlöe. As part of the group Chloe x Halle, she gained notoriety alongside her sister Halle Bailey. The two recorded two studio albums, the second of which, Ungodly Hour, was widely praised when it was released.
