Nigerian Afrobeats star Ololade Ahmed popularly known as Asake has finally talked about his recent transformation, which has been in the news.

The musician debuted a completely new look last month that included face tattoos and a markedly shorter hairstyle than his trademark dreadlocks.

Many of his admirers were alarmed by his appearance and questioned what caused it.

Asake claimed that his metamorphosis is the result of his need for comfort and self-expression in an interview conducted on the red carpet of the 2025 Grammy Awards.

The singer said he is all about feeling comfortable in his skin. He added that his current look is a personal choice that might change at any time

“This is how I feel now. I love to feel comfortable in my look, do things that I feel are good for me,” he said.

“This is not about anybody. This is how I feel now. I might wake up tomorrow and you will not see any tattoos on my face.”

He also said he feels “blessed and honoured” to be nominated for the 2025 Grammy Awards.

“I feel blessed. Because I know there are so many people who want it but for me to be part of the ones that were chosen. I feel blessed and I’m honoured,” he added.

Asake was nominated in the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for ‘MMS’, his collaborative song with Wizkid. However, he lost the category to colleague Tems.
