The Nigerian singer Tems has given her colleague Ayra Starr props for being “hardworking.”

Tems was recently on NPR Music, where she sang a few songs from her first album, “Born in the Wild.”

The Grammy Award winner said of Starr during her speech on the program that she is a gifted performer who “reminds me of myself.”

Tems, 29, stated that the singer, 22, is deserving of her flowers since she is “hardworking and dedicated” to her career.

“I would like to give flowers to this young girl called Ayra Starr,” she said.

“We met a few years ago and she just reminds me so much of myself. She is such a hardworking girl and she is doing the thing. She deserves some flowers.”

When asked if there would be any future collaboration between her and Ayra Starr, Tems said: “Possibly”.

Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Starr became a viral sensation after releasing her hit track ‘Bloody Samaritan’ in 2021.

With several prizes and accolades, Starr has become one of the continent’s premier female artistes.

She was one of the Nigerian musicians that received Grammy Award nominations this year.

She was nominated in the maiden ‘Best African Music Performance’ category for her smash song ‘Rush’. But Starr was defeated by South African singer Tyla.

Conversely, Tems gained notoriety in 2020 as a result of her partnership with Wizkid on the song “Essence.” That same year, she dropped her debut EP, “For Broken Ears.”

In February 2023, the singer received her first-ever Grammy award, winning the “Best Melodic Rap Performance” category for her part in Future and Drake’s 2022 hit song “Wait for U.”

In March, the singer was recognised with a “Breakthrough Award” at the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Awards.
