Veteran musician Friday Igweh, popularly known as Baba Fryo, has offered his thoughts on the recent separation of music legend 2Baba and his wife Annie Idibia, attributing their marital breakdown to the pressures of life in the entertainment industry.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch podcast in Pidgin English, Baba Fryo said the couple failed to manage their relationship properly because both were entertainers, which he believes can be a recipe for conflict if not carefully balanced.
He stressed that in traditional relationships, a woman is often seen as a stabilising influence, particularly when the man is engaging in unhealthy habits. “But if both partners have the same habits — for instance, drinking — who will take care of the other?” he asked.
Fryo further commented that such a dynamic could lead to insecurity in a marriage, especially if one partner begins comparing their spouse to others with more restrained lifestyles.
He also made a personal revelation, claiming he has known 2Baba’s current partner, Natasha, since childhood, and recalled carrying her on his lap when she was three years old.
2Baba and Annie publicly announced their separation on 26 January 2025, with both parties confirming divorce proceedings were underway.
