Basketmouth laments soaring cost of music videos

Renowned comedian and music executive, Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, has expressed his dismay over the soaring cost of music video production in Nigeria.

Basketmouth reminisced about the industry norm, where the cost typically fell within the range of 7 to 7.5 million Naira for music video production. However, he highlighted that the current rates have surged to 27 to 30 million Naira.

He clarified that this substantial price increase influenced his decision to opt for a more economical video for the lead track, ‘Party,’ from his forthcoming album ‘Uburu,’ instead of investing over 25 million Naira in a traditional video shoot.

Basketmouth disclosed this information during a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos.

He said, “The visual we have for my song ‘Party’ with Peruzzi is not an official video. It’s just like a holdup because I did not know that the economy has hit us that bad. 2 years ago, I used to make videos for 7 – 7.5 million Naira. Now, it is 27 – 30 million Naira.”
