BBNaija: Why we went to the show as couple – Team Zinwe

The former BBNaija season nine housemates, Zion and Chinwe, who make up Team Zinwe, have talked about why they decided to enter the competition as a couple.

The couple, who had been dating for five months when they appeared on the show, were evicted last Sunday.

They highlighted spontaneous decision-making in an interview with a limited group of journalists, where Zion said that it was an obvious choice to bring Chinwe along when they signed up for the event.

“Me I was not going to leave my girlfriend on the outside and go in with my guy. What is she doing outside? She had to be in there with me, so going in there together was not a hard decision to make. It was a no-brainer from the get-go,” he said.

On her part, Chinwe added that their genuine dynamic made them a compelling choice.

“It is because we are an actual couple, it would be fake to go in as anything else other than what we truly are. It is a season of dynamic duos, having said that, our dynamics were the reason we were chosen. It does not make sense to say we are a couple, then we apply as anything else other than a couple,” she said.

Chinwe, 30, also highlighted the positive impact of their time in the house on their relationship.

“We know how to handle situations better, I really would not take anything away from the experience. It is an experience, if we had not gone on the show, we would still be a couple in real life, we would still have our real life issues. I would have probably handled it even differently, maybe we would have broken up even earlier,” she said.

“You know how it is, it is easier to run away from situations in real life than deal with it but going into Biggie’s house as a couple, allowed us to confront situations that faced us as a couple. Having gone through that, and working our way through it, it has made us stronger.”

Zion echoed similar sentiments. He also addressed the “bossy” narrative surrounding Chinwe, saying, “As a man, you should allow your girl to lead the way in some issues… It’s about guidance, not control”.

“It has had positive impacts on our relationship. It was a good experience being in Big Brother’s house, you would learn patience, resilience, and having to hold yourself back. People usually ask me about the narrative of Chinwe being bossy,” he said.

“The thing is as a man, you should allow your girl to lead the way in some issues, except she is going overboard. You now have to guide her out of it, that is what a man should do. If we were outside, definitely a lot of things would have been handled differently but being in that house, knowing that the cameras are there and people are watching, you would have patience and resilience. You would learn a lot about yourself.”
