Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna Otabor has made a stir on social media after declaring her decision to drop her family name for very personal and emotional reasons.
The Edo state-born reality personality recently took the extreme step of officially removing the surname “Otabor” from her identity after learning she had no known family ties, according to a tweet posted on X (previously Twitter).
Part of her now-viral tweet was as follows:
“I am publicly dropping my family surname OTABOR. It has been proven that I actually have no family and nobody knows how I came about. It’s been rough with me lately. I’m in a place where I can’t even describe how I feel.”
Phyna went on to explain that the pain of mistreatment by close relatives, which she had once been oblivious to during her childhood, had weighed heavily on her.
“Growing up and the way I was tossed around by relatives, I should have suspected but I guess I was too young,” she added.
Phyna’s announcement comes nearly two years after a public controversy in 2023, where she faced allegations of abandonment by her family following her BBNaija victory.
