Nigeria’s winless streak at the UK’s most prestigious music awards ceremony, the Brit Awards, continues, as the trio of Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema fail to win one accolade at this year’s edition, held at London’s 02 Arena on Saturday night.

SZA, an American celebrity, defeated Burna Boy and Asake in the Best International Act of the Year competition.

Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” defeated Rema‘s “Calm Down” for the title of Best International Song of the Year.

Rema sang his hit song “Calm Down” as an exhilarating finale to the ceremony, even though it was a loss.

Following Burna Boy’s 2019 performance at the ceremony, he became just the second African musician to perform at the BRITs.

In the meantime, Raye has maintained her record as the BRITs’ artist with the most victories in a single year.

Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Songwriter of the Year were among the six honours she won Friday night.

Recall that earlier this year, The 66th Grammy Award held and some Nigerian Artises were nominated. The nominated artiste includes Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Star, Tems, Olamide and Asake.

The Nigerian team lost the inaugural ‘Best African Music Performance’ medal to South African artist Tyla, who won with her 2023 tune “Water”.

All the categories the Afrobeats musicians contended in were announced at the Grammy Premiere function when hundreds of prizes are handed out before the main live telecast show.

2021 Best Global Album Winner Shakti won the category this year, defeating Burna Boy and colleague Davido. The international fusion band triumphed with the album “This Moment,” beating off Burna Boy’s “I Told Them” and Davido’s “Timeless” albums, among others.
