Nigerian musician Davido has talked candidly about his collaborations with American musicians Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown.
Davido claims that Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown share a profound admiration for African music and culture.
Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj frequently choose to include Afrobeats in their collaborations with Davido, according to a recent interview with Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 FM.
He revealed that on their most recent collaboration, “If It’s Okay,” Nicki Minaj expressly asked for a complete African flavour.
Davido also shared a story about working with Brown on the song “Sensational”. He explained that Chris Brown insisted on incorporating Afrobeats into the track and even asked him to sing in Pidgin.
He said :
“My recent collaboration with Nicki Minaj, ‘If It’s Okay,’ has a lot of Afrobeats influence because she wanted full African flavor on it. These days, foreign artists want to do our musical styles, so it is easier for me to work with them,” he said.
“When we were recording ‘Sensational’ with Chris Brown, I was trying to make it American, but he insisted I include Afrobeats. He asked me to sing in Pidgin. My dancers were the video vixens in ‘Sensational.’ They even went on tour with Chris Brown. Chris Brown loves African culture, and Nicki does too.”
