Kim Kardashian has been awarded a symbolic €1 by a Paris court over the 2016 armed robbery in which jewellery worth more than $6m was stolen from her.
The amount was reportedly the compensation requested by the American celebrity, according to a lawyer involved in the case.
Kardashian was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week when the gang targeted her suite. Two of the attackers reportedly disguised themselves as police officers before gaining entry, restraining her and fleeing with her valuables.
The court’s latest decision follows the conviction of eight people over their involvement in the robbery last year.
Kardashian previously described the incident as “the most terrifying experience of my life.”
She and her stylist, Simone Harouche, who was also present during the incident, welcomed the judgment in a joint statement.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition.
“We are thankful to the Court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal,” the statement read.
The court also ordered €109,516 to be paid to a former receptionist at the hotel. His lawyer said he had initially requested €550,000 in damages and interest over the trauma caused by the robbery.
The receptionist’s lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, described the ruling as a victory.
Harouche was also awarded €1 after being caught up in the incident.
The jewellery taken from Kardashian included a diamond ring she had worn earlier that night to a Givenchy fashion show.
The group behind the robbery was nicknamed “les papys braqueurs,” or the grandpa robbers, because several of the accused were elderly. Six of those prosecuted were aged between their 60s and 70s.
They faced charges including armed robbery, kidnapping and criminal gang-related offences. None of those convicted returned to prison because of time already spent in pretrial detention, while none appealed the judgment.
Following the convictions, Kardashian thanked French authorities for bringing the case to court.
“The crime was the most terrifying experience of my life, leaving a lasting impact on me and my family.
“While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in the power of growth and accountability and pray for healing for all. I remain committed to advocating for justice and promoting a fair legal system,” the celebrity said.
