A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights lawsuit brought by Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bobrisky had sought ₦200 million from the EFCC for “psychotic trauma” and ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for the “violation of his right to a fair hearing.”

He also petitioned the court to restrain the EFCC and the National Assembly from “harassing, detaining, or declaring him wanted.”

The case followed allegations made by social media influencer Martins Otse, who leaked an audio recording claiming that Bobrisky had paid the EFCC ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

Court Ruling

Delivering judgment on 28 November, Justice Alexander Owoeye dismissed Bobrisky’s claims, ruling that they were without merit and unsupported by credible evidence.

The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the ruling in a statement released on Friday.

“After evaluating the evidence presented by the Applicant, it is clear that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to support the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought,” the judge stated.

“I find that the allegations of violations of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents have not been substantiated by the affidavit evidence presented before this Court.

“The Applicant’s claims against the 1st and 2nd Respondents are without merit and are hereby dismissed.”

Justice Owoeye also declined to award damages against the EFCC.
