Three Nigerian singers, Tems, Davido and Lojay, were among the winners on night one of the 2024 NAACP Image Awards, which were held virtually at naacpimageawards.net on Monday, March 11.

With “Me & U,” Tems earned the Outstanding International Song award.

After appearing on Chris Brown’s “Sensational,” which took home the Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary) award, Davido and Lojay were added to the list of recipients.

At the 55th Image prizes, Chris Brown and Victoria Monét took home two prizes apiece, making them the largest winners.

For his successful song “Sensational,” which featured Davido and Lojay, Brown was awarded Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Contemporary), and Outstanding Duo, Group, or Collaboration (Traditional), for his featured position in Ciara’s “How We Roll.”

With “Jaguar II,” Monét received awards for both excellent album and outstanding new artist.

Recall that Nigerian Afrobeats stars at the 66th Grammy Awards as Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide and Asake failed to win from 10 nominations across five categories.

The Nigerian team lost the inaugural ‘Best African Music Performance’ medal to South African artist Tyla, who won with her 2023 tune “Water”.

All the categories the Afrobeats musicians contended in were announced at the Grammy Premiere function when hundreds of prizes are handed out before the main live telecast show.

2021 Best Global Album Winner Shakti won the category this year, defeating Burna Boy and colleague Davido. The international fusion band triumphed with the album “This Moment,” beating off Burna Boy’s “I Told Them” and Davido’s “Timeless” albums, among others.

Tems who won her first Grammy last year in the Best Melodic Rap category for her collaboration with Future and Drake on the track ‘Wait for You’, lost in the Song Written for Visual Media category.
