Rukayat Gawat Oyefeso, popular Islamic singer dies yesterday in Lagos after a brief illness and sources claim her remain would be interred by 2pm today in Ayepe, according to Islamic rites.
Newsclick Nigeria learnt she performed 2024 Hajj where as usual, was her boisterous self, ever vivacious with smiles on her face and reciting Islamic exhortation of Allah’s greatness leading some of those close to where she was on the popular Tawaf rites (circumambulation) round the Kabba in Mecca.
Popular Ilorin-based cleric Alfa Aribidesi At-Tawdeeh Islamic Da’awah posted the news of her passing on his official Facebook page on Tuesday morning.
His sad news conveyed the depth of this loss:
“Our Sympathy goes to the family of Ruqayat Gawat for this great lost! 😭😭😭😭😭 May Allah forgive her shortcomings! RUQAYAT GAWAT IS GONE!”
Her death’s additional circumstances have not yet been completely revealed.
The news of her passing has been extensively disseminated, and her followers as well as the larger Islamic music industry, are grieving greatly.
