The renowned performer Femi Kuti has fervently urged youths in Nigeria to remain and strive for a brighter future.
At this year’s Felabration, an annual celebration honouring the life and legacy of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulakpo Kuti, Femi offered the counsel.
The event took place at the Afrika Shrine in Lagos between October 14 to 20.
Femi stressed the value of Nigerian young working for a better nation while speaking to the concertgoers.
The 62-year-old musician said his son Made lives in Nigeria despite being a British citizen. Femi also stated that his son “cannot be anywhere else other than Nigeria”.
“Somebody dey ask me say you no go japa? Japa to where? Let me tell you about Europe. What made Europe great? You think they ran away,” he said.
“They fought hundreds of civil wars. America had one of the most bitter civil wars in history. That is why till today, an American still carries gun. They don’t joke there.
“So until we understand that we all have to stay here, and must fight for a better country that we love. We did not build the shrine in Los Angeles or London, we built it in Africa.
“Now we are here again hosting the biggest festival for 27 years. Get your senses together because this country depends on you.
“Made is a British citizen but where is he? He is in Nigeria. He cannot be anywhere else. Who born am? Na monkey born am? Wetin he wan go do for there?
“Yes, if dem call am for money, he goes to play, he come back for here. Who wan take over the shrine? Me sef I wan retire one day. So, he better be doing the right thing in his life and get himself together as he is doing.”
