Panic swept across the campus community on Tuesday as a freshly built female dorm at Sokoto State university caught fire.
The facility, which was recently constructed to address the accommodation issues that students encountered, was completely destroyed by the fire that started at around 3:30 p.m.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unclear, a student who spoke on the incident said, “We don’t know what started the fire yet.”
Fortunately, no students were inside the hostel when the fire started, as they had already been relocated following a directive from the university.
“The students who were initially assigned to this hostel had been moved to the old hostel. Only the school authorities can explain why,” the student added.
Confirming the incident, the Students’ Union President said firefighters arrived at the scene around 5:00 p.m. and battled the flames.
Authorities have yet to provide an official statement on the incident.
